Chiaroscuro

2.1.2.2.4.2.2.2.1 timp. Strings

Commissioned by the Chicago Symphony

Chiaroscuro employs the use of light and dark to create depth - opposites making one beautiful whole. In singing, we use this term to describe the balance of forward and back resonance to create a tone. This piece makes use of opposing music forces (dynamics, instrumental families, themes, etc.) to symbolize the beauty of individuality, and the celebration of community.
